Sel Roti
Dashain/Vijayadashami and Tihar is on the
doorway so let’s talk about Nepalese authentic dish which we all Nepalese
people make on the occasion of Dashain and Tihar and in addition to other
festivals. Nepalese people probably know that what about I am talking yes it is
none other than Sel Roti. Today we
will learn to make Sel Roti for the
occasion of Dashain. It is the most important festival of Hindu which is
celebrated wonderfully all over the Nepal as well in India. Putting tika on the forehead and taking
blessings from elder is the religious ritual of Nepal. As I mentioned earlier
in my previous recipe I have
raised in west Bengal so I must portray tradition of west Bengal people how
they celebrate it. Bengali’s people use to say Durga puja instead of Dussehra and
in throughout the country it called Dussehra. People from West Bengal celebrate
this as the supreme festival with intensity and enthusiasm, during Durga Puja hopping
pandal over the night with family and friends is the most common things for the
people from there. It symbolized as the great glory of the Gods over the Demons
as the conquest of space by burning an effigy of Ravana on Dashmi. This is the
time for family reunions, friends gathering and exchange gifts and blessings
with loved ones.
Ingredients:
Rice: 500gm
Sugar: ½ cup
Oil: for fry
Clarified butter: 3tbsp
Baking powder: ½ pinch

Tip:

As
an alternative for rice we can use readymade maida or rice flour.
·
Some
people like soft Sel roti for that
add honey and smashed bananas.
·
Sugar
is optional as per choice it can be skipped.
Prepration
for Batter:
· Rinse
off the rice for 2 or 3 times so that rice will extract the starches now add
water and cover it to soak for whole night.
· Drain
the water and take the rice to the grinding jar add clarified butter, ½ cup of water
and grind it in a thick greasy batter.
· Take
the batter into a mixing bowl and beat the batter with the help of ladle or
hand if required add lil amount of water.
Process to Cook:
· On
the high heat sit the flat bottom pan, add oil as much Sel roti can float over the oil and wait to come smoke from the oil.
· Fill
the batter inside the funnel and make a round shaped ring.
· Flip
the Sel roti and fry from the both side until it becomes golden brown.
· Take
out the Sel roti from the oil and
repeat the same for the rest batter.
